Tibezonium Iodide: Antiseptic Mouthwash and Lozenges



Tibezonium (TBZ) Iodide is an oral antiseptic and oropharyngeal disinfectant. It is marketed as Tibezonium iodide, as an antiseptic pharyngeal preparation. It consists of lipophilic quaternary ammonium cation and iodide.

It has pH dependent activity against oropharyngeal agents such as streptococcus, diplococcus and corynebacterium strains. 

It comes in the form of lozenges and antiseptic mouthwash. Tibezonuim iodide lozenges 0.05 mg are available in several flavors like lemon, mint, honey and pineapple.

Four to six lozenges daily at 2-3 hours interval can be taken in the cases of inflammation and infection of mouth, gums, throat, gingivitis, stomatitis, alveolitis, pharyngitis and tonsillitis. 1-2 teaspoon full of mouth wash of Tibezonium iodide with or without equal amount water can be used.
It is marketed with the name of Maxius lozenge as a brand name by Pacific Pharma in Pakistan.
