IV Paracetamol in Pediatrics

Being an effective analgesic and antipyretic, the use of IV paracetamol is on the rise in pediatrics. Paracetamol inhibits cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) enzyme and reduces the production of prostaglandins (PGs). It is safe to offer the post-operative analgesia in children. Hepatotoxicity is rare with prescribed doses and it only occurs when sustained high doses of paracetamol (>90 mg/kg/day) are given.
